A powerful shift begins when we stop asking “Why me?” and start asking “What else is possible?” This article explores how one simple question can unlock new perspectives, choices, and opportunities — even in the face of challenge.
There comes a point in everyone’s journey where the problem we face begins to feel like a wall. It looms large. It takes up space in our minds. It wakes us up at 3 a.m. whispering fears we don’t want to hear. And slowly, it convinces us that we are stuck — that this is just how life is, and that we must learn to live with it.
But here’s a truth most people never pause to consider: you’re not stuck because there’s no solution. You’re stuck because you’ve stopped looking for another way.
Many people are taught to believe that there’s only one answer, one path, one version of life that’s possible — and if that version doesn’t work out, the story ends there. But life isn’t linear. Problems don’t exist to defeat you. They exist to expand you. They show up not to punish you, but to invite you to see the world — and yourself — differently.

Let me explain with a few real-life examples.
Imagine someone who has just left a relationship that broke their heart. In the aftermath, they feel alone, lost, maybe even like a failure. The story they’re telling themselves is: This didn’t work. I’m not loveable. I’ll never find the right person. But what if the question shifted to: What else could love look like? Suddenly, their energy moves from mourning what was, to wondering what could be. Maybe they meet someone kinder. More aligned. Or maybe they meet themselves more deeply for the first time.
Or take someone made redundant at work. Panic sets in. Bills, uncertainty, self-worth — it all collapses. But what if that job loss was never a breakdown, but a redirection? What else could I do? Maybe they start the business they’ve always dreamed of. Maybe they find work that finally excites them. Maybe, just maybe, they find themselves in the process.
And of course, the same applies to finances. Many people believe there’s only one way to earn money: a job, a salary, a linear path. But there are thousands of ways to earn a living. Investments. Freelancing. Partnerships. Licensing. Creation. The list is endless — if you’re open to asking and exploring.
Here’s the thing: you don’t have a solution yet because you haven’t seen it through the right lens. Not because it doesn’t exist.
So today, instead of spiraling into “Why me?” or “What now?” — try this:
Ask: “What else is there?”
Ask it again.Write down 5 possibilities, even if they sound silly.
Pick one and take a tiny step.
Because sometimes, the shift you’re waiting for doesn’t come from having all the answers. It comes from being willing to ask a better question.
Reflective Prompts:
What challenge in my life have I decided has only one solution?
What assumptions am I making about what’s possible for me?
If I had to come up with 3 new ideas or paths — what could they be?
Your next chapter isn’t written in stone. It’s written in curiosity.
And the pen is in your hand.
